Anne Rice
New Orleans, Louisiana, is where Anne Rice was born. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. Although Anne has lived in California for a greater portion of her life than she has in New Orleans, the city is where she truly calls home and where several of her well-known novels are set. The location for her debut book, Interview with the Vampire, was the French Quarter. And her antebellum residence in the Garden District served as the makeshift residence for her fictitious Mayfair Witches.
She has written more than 30 books in all. After being released in 1976, her debut book, Interview with the Vampire, quickly rose to the top of the bestseller list. The Vampire Chronicles, a collection of books that she wrote to continue the story of the vampire Lestat, has garnered both a large mainstream and cult following. Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, and Antonio Banderas starred in Neil Jordan’s 1994 film adaptation of Interview with the Vampire.
