Craig Alexander - A Hero Of Literacy - Worlds Best Story

Craig Alexander – A Hero Of Literacy

08 Feb 2014

Heroes of Literacy are ordinary people, extraordinary icons and all types of organizations doing truly amazing things to help others achieve their dreams because they are inspired by their love of reading and writing.

Some do it for charity, others do it for profit, or a combination of both.

Either way, whether it’s your grandma, your librarian, or your local bookstore, it is this love for reading and writing that keeps driving economies, creates jobs, educates our youth, and provides us all with awesome stories to enjoy!

That’s why we feel that our Heroes of Literacy — extraordinary people who inspired us to create World’s Best Story — deserve a shout out!

Hero Of Literacy: Craig Alexander

We read a report called “Literacy Matters: A Call to Action” written by an amazing Canadian called Craig Alexander — deputy chief economist of TD Bank Financial Group — in which he states that that “the Canadian economy could enjoy a $32-billion boost if literacy rates were improved by only one per cent.”

This blew our minds!

The publishing industry is massive — over $100 Billion for books alone — people everywhere are reading, writing, everybody has a smart-gadget connecting them to the internet and giving them access to tons of media, self-publishing is experiencing massive grounds as well with new superstar authors emerging yearly, yet literacy remains one of the world’s most pressing issues.

Craig Alexander is our first nominee because he directly inspired us to donate 1% of our proceeds to literacy and issue a “1% Challenge” to all organizations and people to do the same!

CraigAlexander

It’s not just that he has dedicated himself to such organizations as the Frontier College Foundation (Frontier College is the first charity ever established in Canada) and tirelessly promotes the cause of literacy everywhere, but he’s done the math and proven to us all that we can make a difference together. Thank you Craig for being a Hero of Literacy.
