Q&A with Vincent

How would you increase literacy?

My mother was a teacher. I was reading on a tenth grade level by the time I was 7. It seems that an early introduction to reading is what helps a lot. I had my kids reading by 3 years old through my own teaching and Montessori school.

What are the ingredients for a blockbuster story to you?

A blockbuster story is one where the author really feels it in their heart. If you write about what you know and feel passionate about, you can really churn out some good copy.

What are your top stories that entertain and/or inspire you?

I love "underdog" stories that show how people have overcome adversity. Memoirs and real life accomplishments are always inspirational.

Do you have any advice to aspiring writers?

Write what you know about and if you don't know it, look it up. Well-researched and factual will show your readers that you care about what you are telling them.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

Like I said earlier, I was an early reader so writing was second nature to me. I have a wide variety of interests. I love poetry by Charles Bukowski, horror by Stephen King and Anne Rice, real-life stories like "The Glass Castle" and anything by Chuck Palahniuk. However, I don't try to copy any of their styles. I've got my own.
